We are delighted to have been one of the first four firms in the country awarded membership of the law society's conveyancing quality scheme. This is the first time I have used Martin Elliott and wish I had used them the first time around!. Thank you for your consideration and professionalism shown in the handling of the estate of my late father. I cannot praise all of the team enough.

This was by no means an easy property sale but you handled it exceptionally well and very professionally. Couldn't have asked for a better service in a difficult house sale. Established since 1992, we are a local law firm in Colchester, Essex offering legal services in residential conveyancing, wills and probate and lasting powers of attorney. Our offices are just off the Berechurch Hall Road in a beautiful converted church with ample car parking for clients.

We were one of the first 4 firms in the country to be accredited by the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) and this accreditation continues. We undergo rigorous annual assessment.
Services
Martin Elliott established the firm in 1992 and has worked hard ever since providing personal and friendly legal advice to the people of Colchester and nearby.
Martin is a Solicitor and has been in practice since 1982, originally as a Partner in another firm and since 1992 on his own account as Martin Elliott & Co. Martin specialises in property and private client work and when not at work, is absolutely radical on a pair of skis!
Connie joined us in the Summer of 2017 for work outside of term time during her degree studies.
We carry out all the legal work involved in buying and selling your property.
Our services also include dealing with remortgages, gifts of property, transfers of equity, and lease extensions.
When your buyer's lawyers confirm that they are instructed by your buyer we will send them the draft contract papers.
When the contract has been approved and we have received the approved transfer deed we will liaise with you for your signature to these documents.
We will hold these documents on file in readiness for exchange of contracts and completion.
Dealing with a death is never easy.
At such a difficult and upsetting time we will do everything we can to make the process of administering the estate as straightforward as possible.
If you have been appointed an executor of a will, or a family member has passed away without leaving a will, please contact us to see how we can help you.
When someone dies, someone has to deal with their affairs.
This is called "administering the estate".
This is done by the executor appointed in a will or by an administrator if there is no will.
Thinking ahead to a time when you are no longer here can feel uncomfortable and upsetting which is perhaps why so many people put off making a will.
However, planning ahead for the future of your family and loved ones is probably one of the most important decisions you can make.
If you pass away without a will then your estate will be subject to the laws of intestacy and could result in your assets being passed to someone that you didn't intend.
The only way legally to direct who should receive your property and assets when you die is to make a legally binding will.
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document by which you can authorise a person or persons you trust (your attorney(s)) to manage your property and financial affairs or health and welfare matters on your behalf.
This gives you more control over what happens to you if you have an accident or illness which prevents you from making your own decisions.
Lasting Powers of Attorney can be invaluable when it comes to dealing with a family member or loved one who has lost physical or mental capacity to manage their personal and financial affairs, even temporarily.
