Services
Our location makes us easily accessible for both local clients and those travelling from further afield.
Our premises are on street level accessible by wheelchair and there is ample room for prams and buggies.
Originally from Dundee, Fiona was educated at the University of Edinburgh, initially obtaining a Degree in Politics before going on to obtain her law degree then Diploma in Legal Practice at the University.
Having moved to Greenock in 1993 for the purposes of her traineeship, Fiona has remained in Inverclyde and she and her family live locally.
We have extensive experience in advising clients going through divorce, dissolution, separation and relationship breakdown.
Often these situations involve parents who face difficulty in reaching decisions concerning their children such as whom they should live with or how often they should have contact with each parent.
We can assist clients by combining a supportive approach at a time which is very stressful.
We shall assess whether our client's situation would be best resolved by way of negotiation or alternatively by way of proceeding with a Court action.
Cook, Stevenson & Company are registered with the Scottish Legal Aid Board to provide Civil Legal Aid including Children's Legal Aid.
At your first meeting you will be assessed for Legal Aid - usually initially Legal Aid Advice & Assistance.
This is why we ask you to provide us with a financial disclosure at your first meeting - including providing us with evidence of your benefits, evidence of earned income and savings.
This information is required by us in order to carry out an assessment and to advise you fully regarding your entitlement to Advice & Assistance and thereafter potentially for Civil Legal Aid if your case involves raising or defending Court proceedings.
If you have suffered an accident then we are able to provide advice and guidance in relation to whether a personal injury claim is likely to be successful.
To be successful with such a claim it is necessary to establish that there has been negligence having occurred.
We can attempt to resolve your situation using skill and practical negotiation, failing which, if necessary and appropriate, we can proceed to raise Court action upon your behalf.
Unlike some firms of Solicitors or claims handlers we do not take a percentage of your compensation should you be successful without going to court.
Buying or selling your house will be one of the biggest financial decisions that you may have to make.
This can make it a very stressful experience for many people.
We will try and make the experience as straightforward as possible for you explaining to you every step, how your purchase or sale is progressing and maintaining contact with you via email.
Both our partners deal with conveyancing but our conveyancing assistant and Officer Manager, Marion Scott is on hand to speak with clients on a regular basis throughout their conveyancing transaction.
